Objective
The School Mentorship Program aims to enhance growth, learning, and personal development among students by helping them build confidence, cultivate positive study habits, and navigate pathways to opportunity, including a smooth transition from Junior High School (JHS) to Senior High School (SHS).

Program Description

In rural communities like Bomponso (Eastern Region, Ghana), many students navigate school without consistent academic guidance or structured study support. Lack of after-school resources, and financial constraints can make it harder for learners to stay organized, prepare for exams, and plan their next steps after JHS. Limited exposure to role models and career paths can make opportunities beyond JHS feel distant, which narrows vision and makes big goals feel out of reach.

Inclusive Futures Foundation’s School Mentorship program pairs trained volunteer mentors with JHS students for sessions focused on study planning, problem-solving, and well-being—meeting students where they are, with the tools they already have. Mentors also help students prepare for examinations and navigate the transition to SHS by discussing subject strengths, goal-setting, and practical next steps. Where appropriate, mentors connect students to relevant resources and the program supports learners with materials such as exercise books, stationery, textbooks, and other learning aids as needs are identified and within program capacity – urging learners to see beyond immediate circumstances.

Who we Serve

Our current program is serving Junior High school (JHS) students at Bomponso D/A School.

Focus: students benefit from regular check-ins, study support, guidance and encouragement

Cost: Free for families

Our Mentors: All mentors are volunteers who complete training and follow our Code of Conduct.

Expanding Horizons

Talent is everywhere; opportunity and exposure aren’t. By normalizing big goals, sharing relatable success stories, and breaking down the path from JHS to SHS (and beyond) into clear steps, we replace hesitation with confidence. Students learn to aim higher, act sooner, and pursue opportunities they might otherwise miss.

How the Program Works

Format: Primarily phone calls (voice/WhatsApp), with occasional in-person group meet-ups at school

Cadence: 30–45 minutes weekly during term (8–12 weeks), with optional exam prep sessions

Match: 1 mentor : 2 student

Current pilot scale: 8 mentors supporting 11 students.

Content: Study plans, homework reviews, goal-setting, life skills (self-advocacy, time management), well-being check-ins, exam readiness, and SHS transition guidance.

Safeguards: All communication follows our safeguarding protocol, with parent/guardian consent and school oversight

Resource & Material Support
Volunteer mentors help link students with needed services where possible. The program may provide exercise books, stationery, textbooks, and other learning/support materials as needs are identified and within program capabilities.

Increase exam readiness and confidence in core subjects

Safeguarding & Privacy

We run training for mentors, and use a Mentor Code of Conduct. Parents/guardians provide consent. Calls follow monitored schedules. Student data is minimal, encrypted, and never shared without consent.
